Analytics in Action

Profs. Mohamed Minhaj and Lee Schlenker facilitated the final module of SDMIMD’s Analytics Track, Analytics in Action, this past month in Mysore, India

Analytics in Action explored case studies of the operational and managerial challenges of Data Science in Community Management, Education, Fin Tech, the Life Sciences, Manufacturing, and Smart Cities.  The focus of the students work in each industry was to focus on the industry’s business models and key business challenges, to analyze how the industry uses data to address these opportunities and challenges, to identify key examples of how data science and machine learning is used in a specific organization in India, and to access the impact on managerial decision making.

The Shri Dharmasthala Manjunatheshwara Institute for Management Development (SDMIMD) is part of and educational trust of the same name that runs over 40 recognized institutions of Engineering, Medical, Dental, Ayurveda and Naturopathy colleges in India. SDMIMD’s core offering is the two-year residential Post Graduate Diploma in Management (approved by the All India Council for Technical Education (AICTE) and accredited by National Board of Accreditation (NBA), the Accreditation Council for Business Schools and Programs (ACBSP) and the European Federation for Management Development (EFMD). As part of this endeavor, collaborating with Business Analytics Institute, which has rich experience in both training and consulting related to analytics would foster in strengthening their Analytics Stream.

SDMIMD’s Analytics Track employs a systematic learning approach that combines the data with the knowledge of the domain, process and the technology that would equip the future business managers to identify the opportunities from the data that organizations possess, ask the right data-driven questions and make the right decisions at the right time. The courses offered under this track have a mix of Statistics, Information Technology (IT) and different elements of business knowledge, thereby giving a comprehensive understanding of Business Analytics.
